About

Dylan Hawkinson positions clothing as a witness to lived history, valuing garments not for style but as human archives of action. Across media, he traces how material residue reflects cycles of archiving, cleansing, and recovery. His interdisciplinary practice, rooted in handmade paper and monoprinting, uses staining, soaking, and embedding to activate the histories held within clothing.

His background in fashion publishing informs a sensitivity to the visual and structural language of garments, expanded into a broader inquiry on material memory, embodiment, and personal narrative.

He received his BA from Sarah Lawrence College and his MFA in Studio Art (2D Studies) from the University of Arizona, where he was awarded the Helen Gross Award for Thesis Work. He previously served as Graduate Gallery Manager at the University of Arizona School of Art and curated Influx and co-curated Future Tense.
